Friends of Fogelberg Concert

Friends of Fogelberg is an Amarillo based non-profit organization which will be producing this tribute concert to the late Dan Fogelberg, beloved singer-songwriter of the 70s, 80s and 90s who sadly passed away from prostate cancer in 2007 at the age of 56.

Long time Lubbock musician,  Junior Vasquez, will be directing and performing in the show as well as some of Lubbock’s finest musicians - presenting an evening of Dan Fogelberg’s music, celebrating the life of this timeless singer-songwriter, at the same time – fighting this deadly man’s disease.

The concert is slated for September 18th, the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theatre. Funds raised will benefit the Covenant Foundation to continue the fight against prostate cancer.

Friends of Fogelberg is a volunteer organization, meaning no one in our group is being paid. We’ve begun a great grass-roots movement we believe can make a real impact on the health of men – not only in Amarillo and Lubbock, but across the nation! Think Blue Too!

Performing at this event will be Kenny Maines, The Attendings, Hat Trick, Bo Garza, Woody Key, David Dale, Cary Banks, Jerry Slater, Mikaela Vasquez and The Friends Band.

Texas Tech Fall Opera

The Texas Tech University School of Music performs its fall opera, “Suor Angelica” and “The Old Maid and the Thief,” September 26, 27 and 28. This is the first time TTU Music Theatre will perform in the Wells Fargo Amphitheater in partnership with Lubbock Moonlight Musicals. Gates open for each performance at 7:00 p.m., with the opera starting at 8:00 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and a picnic supper to enjoy with the show.

“Suor Angelica” (Sister Angelica) is the second of Giacomo Puccini’s trio of one-act operas, Il Trittico. Sung in Italian, the story is a mystery that surrounds the title character and ends with a supernatural vision.

The mystery continues with Gian-Carlo Menotti’s “The Old Maid and the Thief.” This opera, which is sung in English, will keep the audience guessing who the thief is as the story unfolds in a sleepy, southern town.

This production is directed by Greg Brookes, assistant professor of voice. Gerald Dolter, director of TTU Music Theatre said Brookes is a very experienced director of opera, and this is his first time to share his creativity with the Lubbock community.

“The Wells Fargo Amphitheatre is the perfect venue to become acquainted with this kind of a stage show,” Dolter said. “Picnic dinners and opera have been enjoyed for years in Central Park in New York City. Now, Lubbock can experience it.

Tickets for all three performances are available through Select-A-Seat. Texas Tech students can receive a free ticket with a valid ID at the TTU SUB or main Select-A-Seat Box Office.

For more information, contact Gerald Dolter, Director of TTU Music Theatre, Texas Tech School of Music, at (806) 742-2270 or [email protected].

Friday, October 3 – 7:00 p.m
Book signing following lecture

“My goal is to bring the term ‘Chicano’ to the forefront of the art world. Chicano art is American art.” – Cheech Marin

Cheech Marin is best known as one half of the hilariously irreverent duo of Cheech and Chong. While primarily known as an actor, a director, and a performer, Marin has developed what is arguably the finest private collection of Chicano art.In his multi-media presentation Chicano Art: Perspectives of an Art Advocate, Cheech Marin discusses the status of Chicano art in the U.S. today and his role as an art advocate of this school of American art.  In conjunction with the Presidential Lecture and Performance Series and Mr. Marin’s visit, Landmark Arts will be mounting the exhibition Chicanitas: Small Paintings from the Cheech Marin Collection, on display from October 3 through December 14.

The College of Visual & Performing Arts is pleased to honor Cheech Marin as a Visiting Scholar, an appointment made possible by the generosity of the Maegene Nelson Visiting Scholar Program in Cross-Disciplinary Arts. Community outreach for this program was funded in part by a grant from the Sybil B. Harrington Endowment for the Arts of the Lubbock Area Foundation.

Paul McCartney

"I'm sorry but it's going to be a few more weeks before we get rocking in America again. I'm feeling great but taking my docs' advice to take it easy for just a few more days.  Look forward to seeing you all soon."-Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney has confirmed that he will, however reluctantly, heed medical advice to rest up just a bit longer to fully recuperate from the virus that forced the postponement of his recent dates in Japan and Korea.

The Out There world tour will now resume July 5 in Albany, NY, and the June 14-26 shows in Lubbock, Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Nashville and Louisville have been rescheduled to October. Tickets for the original June dates will been honored for the new dates detailed below.

The Out There tour, as always, features music from the most beloved catalog in popular music, as Paul performs songs spanning his entire career--as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course as a Beatle. The set list will also include material from Paul's most recent studio album NEW, a global hit upon its release last year.

The McCartney live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity; in just three hours some of the greatest moments from the last 50 years of music are relived; music which for many has shaped the very soundtrack of their lives. The last decade has seen Paul and his band perform in a staggeringly impressive range of venues and locations, including outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow's Red Square, Buckingham Palace, at the White House, a free show in Mexico to over 400,000 people, and even broadcast live into Space! Featuring Paul's band of the last 10+ years--Paul "Wix" Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (drums)--the show never disappoints.

The tour also uses state of the art technology and production to ensure the entire audience has the best possible experience. With massive screens, lasers, fireworks, unique video content and, of course, the best songs in the world, a Paul McCartney show is so much more than just an ordinary concert. Paul's shows attract a multi generational audience from different backgrounds all brought together by his music.

October 2 - United Spirit Arena, Lubbock, TX (re-scheduled from June 14)

Nunsense begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials.  The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth grade production of “Grease.”  Here we meet Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices; a streetwise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head.
